Hydrometers are used to measure the specific gravity of a fluid, which is then used to determine the antifreeze volume and freeze protection level of the fluid. It is generally accepted that closed-loop geothermal heat pump systems should include freeze protection to a level of 10 degrees lower than the lowest expected entering fluid temperature.
